Offshore Wind Construction Time Reduced from 80 Days to 3 Days (15 Mar 2021, Money Today, Korea)
Summary:
A groundbreaking technology has been developed to reduce the installation time of offshore wind turbines from 80-90 days to just 3 days. Traditionally, components were transported to the site and assembled at sea, but now turbines can be fully assembled on land and transported by special ships to their final location.
The Korea Electric Power Corporation’s (KEPCO) research institute announced the completion of this integrated installation system, which will be demonstrated next month. This system uses suction bucket technology to anchor turbines, significantly cutting installation time and costs, while also reducing environmental impact and noise.
Additionally, KEPCO’s research institute has developed advanced energy storage systems and high-efficiency solar cells, further contributing to renewable energy advancements.
